La OTAN tiene previsto invitar a Ucrania a unirse a la alianza militar. Pero sólo ocurrirá cuando todos los miembros estén de acuerdo y Ucrania cumpla ciertas condiciones.
El secretario general, Jens Stoltenberg, declaró esto durante una conferencia de prensa en una cumbre de la OTAN celebrada en Vilna (Lituania). El presidente ucraniano, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, criticó a la OTAN. Dijo que la OTAN no daba un plazo concreto para la adhesión, lo cual, según él, era absurdo.
Stoltenberg afirmó que el apoyo de la OTAN a la adhesión de Ucrania nunca había sido tan firme. Explicó que los países anteriores que querían ingresar en la OTAN no tenían un plazo concreto, pero sí condiciones que cumplir. La adhesión se producirá cuando Ucrania cumpla las condiciones y todos los países miembros estén de acuerdo.
