Esto hace que sea difícil y costoso extraerlo del suelo y procesarlo. También genera altas emisiones, incluido el metano, que es muy perjudicial para el planeta.

Los petróleos más ligeros de otros países son más fáciles de extraer y dan mejores productos, como la gasolina. El petróleo de Venezuela a menudo se convierte en asfalto o combustible pesado, que no son tan buenos. La industria petrolera del país también tiene muchos problemas, como equipos averiados y un mantenimiento deficiente.
