Otro astronauta ruso, Gennady Padalka, ostentaba el récord anterior. A Kononenko le encanta su trabajo en el espacio. Pero echa de menos a su familia cuando está en una misión larga. Hoy en día, no es un problema comunicarse con su familia desde el espacio. Pero sigue estando triste por perderse algunos momentos importantes con las personas a las que quiere.
