Los incendios forestales arrasaron nueve países del Mediterráneo, lo que provocó la pérdida de 40 vidas, la mayoría en Argelia.
Las autoridades argelinas informaron de 34 muertes en la región montañosa del norte, mientras que Túnez también se enfrentó a incendios forestales. En Italia, durante una ola de calor extremo, Sicilia y Calabria sufrieron numerosos incendios forestales, que se cobraron dos vidas. Los bomberos lucharon contra las llamas en Turquía, Croacia, Siria, Gran Canaria y un parque natural cerca de Lisboa, Portugal.
La científica Izidine Pinto afirmó que la creciente frecuencia e intensidad de estos incendios forestales estaba directamente relacionada con la crisis climática provocada por el ser humano.
