Sudáfrica celebró su primera victoria en la Copa Mundial Femenina. El equipo venció a Italia por 3-2 y se aseguró un puesto en octavos de final.
El partido fue intenso, y el gol de Thembi Kgatlana en el último minuto aseguró su victoria. Italia esperaba un empate para continuar en la copa, pero no fue así. Los italianos se adelantaron con un penalti, pero Sudáfrica empató en propia meta. Más tarde, Sudáfrica se adelantó, e Italia respondió con otro gol tras un saque de esquina.
