El 28 de febrero, el petrolero MT Princess Express empezó a tener problemas con el motor en el mar agitado.
El petrolero, que transportaba 800.000 litros de combustible industrial, se hundió en el fondo del mar.
El vertido de petróleo llegó a la isla filipina de Mindoro, y manchó sus playas. Mucha gente intentó limpiarlas, pero cuando lo hicieron, el mar trajo más petróleo.
Las autoridades dijeron que habían localizado el petrolero y que estaba a 366 metros de profundidad, frente a la provincia de Mindoro Oriental. Los científicos dijeron que unas 36.000 hectáreas de arrecifes de coral, manglares y hierbas marinas podrían estar en peligro.
