Tras la muerte del presidente Hage Geingob, Nangolo Mbumba se convirtió en presidente interino de Namibia. Mbumba dijo que no se presentaría a las elecciones, porque deseaba ser director de escuela.

Esta decisión permite a Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah presentarse, lo que podría convertirla en la primera mujer presidenta de Namibia. La elección de Mbumba rompe con la norma de los dirigentes africanos, que suelen querer permanecer en el poder el mayor tiempo posible.

Namibia quiere ser líder en energía verde e invertir en hidrógeno y minerales. Esto hace que el país sea más especial que cualquier otro Estado africano.
