Moldavia es un pequeño país de 2,5 millones de habitantes situado entre Ucrania y Rumania.
En 2020, el nuevo presidente Maia Sandu prometió que el país intentaría convertirse en miembro de la Unión Europea. Moldavia formaba parte de la Unión Soviética, por lo que esta noticia enfadó mucho a Rusia.
Desde que comenzó la guerra en Ucrania en febrero de 2022, la situación en Moldavia se volvió inestable. Hubo bulos de bombas, hackeos de Internet y protestas. Algunas personas dicen que Rusia intenta socavar el gobierno prooccidental. En algunas partes de Moldavia, casi todo el mundo habla ruso, principalmente debido a la historia común de ambos países. Supuestamente, algunas personas apoyan a Rusia, pero las autoridades dicen que el país no quiere formar parte del conflicto entre Occidente y Rusia.
