Rebecca Cheptegei, maratoniana ugandesa de 33 años, murió tras ser agredida por su ex novio.
La roció con gasolina y le prendió fuego. El ataque ocurrió en Kenia después de que ella regresara de la iglesia con sus hijas. Cheptegei sufrió quemaduras graves y murió cuatro días después en el hospital a causa de las heridas. Su ex novio también está en el hospital con quemaduras. Desde 2021, han muerto tres atletas femeninas, lo que ha suscitado preocupación por la seguridad de las mujeres atletas.
Cheptegei empezó a correr para Uganda en 2010. Ganó una medalla de oro en carreras de montaña en 2022 y compitió en los Juegos Olímpicos de París. La gente que la conocía decía que era una persona amable y simpática.
