El vertedero de Dandora, en Nairobi, Kenia, es uno de los mayores del mundo. El lugar está lleno de plásticos de un solo uso, aunque el país se esfuerza por ser más respetuoso con el medio ambiente.
Kenia quiere un acuerdo mundial sobre los plásticos, y los delegados se están reuniendo para debatir el primer acuerdo sobre la contaminación por plásticos. En 2017, Kenia aplicó leyes estrictas contra las bolsas de plástico, con severas sanciones por su uso. La reciente ley hace responsables de los residuos plásticos a los productores, en lugar de a los consumidores.
Una empresa lechera keniana respondió a la nueva ley cambiando a botellas de leche PET transparentes. Mucha gente lo acogió con satisfacción porque ahora es más fácil reciclar las botellas de leche. Esto demuestra que los kenianos están cambiando de mentalidad y quieren abordar el problema de la contaminación por plástico.
