Los hipopótamos pueden describirse como animales muy agresivos, imprevisibles y de los más peligrosos del mundo. Sin embargo, Zlat, Jana e Ida, de diez años, realizan trucos como parte de un espectáculo circense itinerante en Rusia.
Su adiestrador insiste en que el espectáculo es totalmente seguro para los espectadores, que a veces están a sólo unos metros de distancia. Los grandes animales ruedan, saltan e incluso interpretan una versión real de Hipopótamos Hambrientos como parte de la actuación.
