El 27 de octubre, las fuerzas israelíes iniciaron una operación terrestre y descubrieron una red de túneles en Gaza. Había unos 800 pozos y los soldados israelíes ya han destruido más de la mitad de ellos.
Hamás dijo que su sistema de túneles era tan grande como el metro de Nueva York. Lo utilizan tanto con fines de protección como operativos. Las bombas israelíes alcanzaron estos túneles en zonas civiles, a menudo cerca de edificios como escuelas y mezquitas. Los militares utilizaron diferentes medios para destruir los túneles, por ejemplo, bombas, robots cartográficos y gel explosivo.
A muchos países les preocupa que mueran civiles en estos ataques, y piden a Israel que los planifique cuidadosamente.
