Franz Beckenbauer, icono del fútbol alemán, ha fallecido a los 78 años tras una larga e influyente carrera de más de 50 años.
Conocido por su presencia dominante sobre el terreno de juego, Beckenbauer destacó como jugador, entrenador, comentarista y administrador. Desempeñó un papel crucial en Alemania Occidental y en el Bayern de Múnich durante las décadas de 1960 y 1970, ganándose el reconocimiento como centrocampista con clase y líbero defensivo central. Su impacto se extendió al éxito como entrenador, ganando la Eurocopa de 1972 y capitaneando el equipo ganador de la Copa del Mundo de 1974. Como entrenador, consiguió otra victoria mundialista para Alemania en 1990.
La muerte de Beckenbauer suscitó reacciones de políticos, aficionados, colegas y clubes de fútbol. El dirigente alemán Olaf Scholz le reconoció como uno de los mejores futbolistas de Alemania, al que a menudo se referían como el ‘Kaiser‘ o Emperador.
