Noruega es el país que más exporta a la UE. La piscicultura ayuda a evitar la sobrepesca, pero también crea nuevos problemas.

Muchas piscifactorías crían al salmón en jaulas en mar abierto. Los residuos y los productos químicos se vierten al agua y dañan el medio ambiente. Los peces suelen vivir muy juntos, por lo que las enfermedades se propagan rápidamente. Esto perjudica a los peces y los criadores deben utilizar productos químicos para resolver los problemas.

Las asociaciones protectoras de animales afirman que esto causa dolor y estrés a los salmones. Algunas piscifactorías siguen normas más estrictas y utilizan etiquetas especiales. Estas etiquetas ayudan a la gente a elegir mejor el pescado, pero los expertos afirman que no siempre evitan los problemas en todas las piscifactorías.
