Comer insectos en la UE – nivel 2

Algunas personas en Internet dicen que la UE permite alimentos peligrosos a base de insectos, pero los científicos afirman que esto es falso.

La Comisión Europea aprobó un nuevo ingrediente a base de insectos, el polvo de gusano amarillo de la harina tratado con rayos UV, tras comprobar que es seguro. Los insectos pueden ser una buena fuente de alimentos porque son mejores para el medio ambiente que la carne. Necesitan menos tierra y agua y contaminan menos. La gente ya come insectos en algunos países, pero no es habitual en Europa.

Algunos políticos, sobre todo de grupos euroescépticos y de extrema derecha, creen que la UE está sustituyendo la carne por insectos y perjudicando a los agricultores. Aunque los científicos dicen que los insectos son seguros, muchos europeos no quieren comerlos. La gente suele sentir asco ante los nuevos alimentos, lo que puede frenar su uso en Europa.
