Según las autoridades sanitarias estadounidenses, unas gotas oftálmicas fabricadas en la India probablemente causaron la muerte de una persona y perjudicaron a varias otras. Las gotas contenían bacterias peligrosas resistentes a los medicamentos, que antes no existían en EEUU.
Según un informe, se infectaron 68 pacientes de 16 estados. Utilizaban colirios y lágrimas artificiales, y las autoridades tuvieron que retirar ciertas marcas de estos productos. Una mujer de Florida demandó a una empresa farmacéutica tras perder un ojo por una infección de su producto.
Las autoridades sanitarias aconsejaron a las personas afectadas que buscaran ayuda médica si experimentaban síntomas negativos. Estos síntomas son secreción amarilla o verde del ojo, dolor, enrojecimiento, mala visión o sensibilidad a la luz.
