La industria chilena del litio – nivel 2

El presidente de Chile, Gabriel Boric, anunció planes para nacionalizar la industria del litio del país.
Chile es el segundo productor mundial de este importante metal que se utiliza en las baterías de los vehículos eléctricos. Chile quiere mejorar su economía y proteger su medio ambiente. SQM y Albemarle, las dos grandes empresas de la industria del litio, transferirán el control de sus operaciones de litio a una empresa estatal. Esta decisión supone un nuevo reto para los fabricantes de vehículos eléctricos que buscan materiales para las baterías, porque cada vez más países quieren proteger sus recursos naturales.
El mercado mundial del litio tiene problemas de escasez de materias primas. México nacionalizó sus yacimientos de litio en 2022, e Indonesia prohibió las exportaciones de mineral de níquel en 2020. México, Argentina y Bolivia están formando una asociación del litio para compartir sus conocimientos sobre el procesamiento de este mineral.
