A los 25 años, Keir Mather, miembro del Partido Laborista, ganó las elecciones parciales de Selby y Ainsty, y se convirtió en el diputado más joven de la Cámara de los Comunes.
Mather creció cerca de Selby y siempre fue muy activo en política. Creó un grupo laborista para jóvenes. Tras estudiar historia y política en la Universidad de Oxford, trabajó como investigador y asesor. A Mather le encanta hablar y es seguidor del equipo de rugby Hull Kingston Rovers. Ve la unidad en el deporte y quiere representar a su comunidad.
La madre de Mather confía en su futuro político, y dice que su hijo podría incluso llegar a Primer Ministro algún día. Los líderes del partido dicen que tiene potencial y comprensión para los problemas de su generación.
