Chiquita es una gran empresa bananera de EEUU.
Quiere dejar de trabajar en Panamá y despedirá a todos sus trabajadores. En mayo ya despidió a 5.000 trabajadores. Los trabajadores estaban descontentos con las nuevas leyes de pensiones e iniciaron una huelga. El tribunal dijo que la huelga era ilegal, pero siguió adelante.
El presidente de Panamá dice que esto es muy malo para el país. Mucha gente trabaja en las granjas bananeras, y si éstas cierran, 7.000 personas perderán su empleo. Esto causará problemas como menos alimentos y combustible, y muchas escuelas podrían cerrar.
El gobierno espera encontrar una solución. Quieren hablar con los trabajadores y la empresa, pero los trabajadores no quieren hablar. Si no encuentran una solución, la vida será más difícil para mucha gente.
