Estados Unidos e Israel atacaron Irán. El presidente Trump dijo que quería impedir que Irán se convirtiera en una potencia nuclear y proteger a los estadounidenses. Irán respondió lanzando cohetes contra bases militares estadounidenses en Baréin y otros países de la región. Los países interceptaron muchos cohetes en el aire, pero algunos alcanzaron el suelo, causaron víctimas mortales y destruyeron edificios. Israel declaró el estado de emergencia y cerró su espacio aéreo. Hubo explosiones en ciudades iraníes.
El líder supremo de Irán, el ayatolá Alí Jamenei, murió durante los ataques. Dirigía Irán desde 1989. La situación se produce tras semanas de protestas y conversaciones sobre el programa nuclear de Irán. Muchas personas temen que el conflicto se agrave.
