Ghana recupera cosas viejas del Reino Unido y Sudáfrica – nivel 3

Más de 130 objetos de oro y bronce han sido devueltos a Ghana desde el Reino Unido y Sudáfrica.
Muchos de ellos fueron arrebatados al Reino Asante durante la época colonial, mientras que otros se compraron posteriormente en el mercado libre. Algunos de los objetos devueltos fueron saqueados por soldados británicos durante el asedio de Kumasi en 1900.
Los objetos, entre ellos regalia real, tambores y pesas ceremoniales de oro, tienen entre 45 y 160 años de antigüedad y muestran la importancia del oro en la cultura Asante. En una ceremonia celebrada en Kumasi, el rey Otumfuo Osei Tutu II agradeció a la empresa sudafricana AngloGold Ashanti y a la experta en arte británica Hermione Waterfield la devolución de las piezas.
Waterfield, historiadora del arte pionera, había apoyado durante mucho tiempo la restitución del arte africano. El acto pone de relieve los crecientes esfuerzos de África por recuperar su patrimonio cultural y reconciliarse con la historia colonial.
