El lacrosse es uno de los deportes más antiguos de Norteamérica, y ahora es el deporte de equipo de más rápido crecimiento en el mundo. Estará en los Juegos Olímpicos de 2028, por primera vez en más de 100 años.
Este deporte está creciendo rápidamente en EEUU, y ahora se juega en más de 90 países. En 2018 comenzó una nueva liga profesional, la PLL, que más tarde se unió a la Major League Lacrosse. Una televisión deportiva estadounidense emite ahora partidos e invierte en lacrosse masculino y femenino.
Aun así, este deporte tiene problemas. El lacrosse cuesta mucho porque los jugadores necesitan equipamiento especial. Muchos de los mejores jugadores proceden de ciudades y universidades ricas, y la mayoría de los aficionados son muy ricos. Aunque hay 48 millones de aficionados, la audiencia televisiva es escasa. Los expertos dicen que el deporte debe crecer fuera de su imagen de riqueza para hacerse popular.
