El Día Mundial del Mosquito es el 20 de agosto. No es un día feliz. La gente aprovecha este día para reflexionar sobre el peligro de los mosquitos. En 1897, Sir Ronald Ross descubre que los mosquitos transmiten la malaria. Esto es muy importante para los médicos.
Hoy en día, los mosquitos siguen enfermando a mucha gente. El dengue es una enfermedad peligrosa. Se propaga muy rápidamente y mata a muchas personas cada año. Los mosquitos ponen huevos en el agua. Si el agua se queda debajo de las plantas o cerca de las casas, vienen más mosquitos.
La profesora Beth McGraw dice que la gente puede ayudar en casa. Podemos quitar el agua de alrededor de nuestras casas. Esto impide que crezcan los mosquitos. Más de un millón de personas mueren cada año a causa de estos insectos. Este día nos pide que tengamos cuidado y seamos fuertes.
