El Tribunal Europeo ha decidido que los productos de origen vegetal pueden seguir utilizando nombres como ‘hamburguesa vegetariana‘ y ‘filete vegano‘.
Esto es bueno para los consumidores porque les ayuda a entender lo que están comprando. Pero existe la preocupación de que los distintos países de Europa puedan establecer sus propias normas, lo que podría confundir a la gente. Algunas personas piensan que los productos vegetales deben tener nombres diferentes porque no son carne. Otros consideran que los nombres actuales son útiles para las recetas.
En Francia, hay leyes estrictas que impiden que los alimentos vegetales utilicen nombres como ‘filete‘ o ‘jamón‘. Las empresas no saben qué hacer ahora. Alrededor del 70% de los consumidores están de acuerdo con utilizar nombres de carne si el producto lleva una etiqueta vegetariana o vegana.
