El flash-panning es una nueva forma de ligar, como el love bombing y el ghosting. Comienza con mucha diversión y atención, como citas o viajes emocionantes.
Al principio, la relación parece perfecta, sobre todo en las redes sociales. Pero cuando surgen problemas de la vida real, como horarios o responsabilidades, la persona, llamada flashpanner, se marcha de repente. Los flashpanners disfrutan del emocionante comienzo de una relación, pero no quieren enfrentarse a nada serio. Cuando las cosas se ponen difíciles, se van sin dar explicaciones.
Según la experta Susan Winter, los flashpanners no saben gestionar los problemas en las relaciones, así que se van en vez de intentar resolverlos. Esto puede herir a la otra persona, que puede sentirse confusa y triste.
