La policía filipina ha detenido a Apollo Quiboloy, célebre televangelista buscado por las autoridades estadounidenses y filipinas por tráfico sexual de menores.
Quiboloy se entregó tras dos semanas de registro de su finca de 30 hectáreas en Davao. Él y otras cuatro personas serán juzgados en Manila por abusos a menores, abusos sexuales y trata de seres humanos. Las autoridades filipinas no tienen previsto extraditarlo a Estados Unidos. Quiboloy fundó el Reino de Jesucristo, y afirma tener más de 7 millones de seguidores en todo el mundo. Mantiene estrechos vínculos con el ex presidente Rodrigo Duterte, del que fue asesor espiritual.
En 2018, las autoridades estadounidenses detuvieron a Quiboloy, lo que dio lugar a acusaciones de tráfico de menores, matrimonios fraudulentos y malversación de fondos benéficos. Su influencia creció gracias al apoyo religioso en la política, una poderosa herramienta en Filipinas.
