Peter Higgs, el físico ganador del Premio Nobel conocido como el padre de la ‘partícula de Dios‘, ha fallecido a la edad de 94 años.
Se hizo famoso por su revolucionaria teoría de los años 60, en la que proponía la existencia del bosón de Higgs, una partícula responsable de dar masa a otras partículas y de unir el universo. Décadas más tarde, la teoría fue confirmada por experimentos en el Gran Colisionador de Hadrones de Cern (Suiza). La humildad y dedicación de Higgs a la ciencia fueron notables, ya que rehuyó el término ‘partícula de Dios‘ a pesar de su uso popular. Ayudó a desentrañar uno de los mayores enigmas de la física, lo que le valió un lugar junto a nombres como Isaac Newton y Albert Einstein.
El descubrimiento del bosón de Higgs fue un importante logro de la física que contribuyó a nuestra comprensión de las partículas y fuerzas fundamentales del universo.
