Cada día, la gente tira millones de prendas de ropa. Una vez que las tiran, no suelen pensar qué ocurre con ellas. Mucha ropa de Norteamérica, Europa o Australia va a parar a países como Ghana o India.
En Ghana, la gente la recicla; la llaman ropa muerta de los blancos. La cantidad de ropa es tan grande que no pueden reciclarla toda. Alrededor del 40% se convierte en basura, y acaba en los ríos y en el mar. En India, algunas prendas viejas se convierten en aislantes de coches, colchones o trapos de limpieza. Incluso estos productos se convierten en residuos algún día.
Las empresas de ropa quieren ganar mucho dinero, y por eso fabrican demasiada ropa que no dura mucho. Este trabajo se llama moda rápida. La gente tira la ropa rápidamente porque quiere comprar ropa nueva.
