Mantiene el cerebro a salvo porque es aislante en el frío, por otra parte, impide que el cerebro se sobrecaliente cuando hace demasiado calor. Además, el pelo absorbe el sudor y protege la piel de los rayos UV. Los científicos creen que, en el pasado, el pelo desempeñaba un papel importante en la elección de una pareja sexual. Pero hoy en día, los sombreros nos protegen la cabeza, así que el pelo ya no parece tan importante.
