El telescopio espacial James Webb tomó imágenes extraordinarias de 19 galaxias espirales. Estas imágenes ayudan a los científicos a comprender cómo nacen las estrellas y cómo se forman las galaxias.
Estas imágenes muestran galaxias como NGC5068, que está a 15 millones de años luz, y NGC1365, a 60 millones de años luz. Los científicos lanzaron el telescopio en 2021. Observa principalmente en el infrarrojo, lo que significa que puede ver a través del polvo y estudiar las estrellas que hay detrás. El astrónomo Thomas Williams destacó que las imágenes ayudaban a comprender la formación estelar temprana.
Las imágenes también muestran estructuras detalladas de nubes de polvo y gas, que ayudan a comprender el ciclo de formación estelar.
