Los olivareros griegos tienen problemas. La cosecha de este año es mala y, a medida que suben los precios, aumentan los robos.
Panagiotis Tsafaras, cultivador de Filiatra, recorre sus olivares dos veces al día para protegerlos de los ladrones. Unos ladrones robaron más de una tonelada de aceitunas en un solo incidente. Nunca había ocurrido algo así en la región, y los cultivadores tienen que tomar medidas para detener a los ladrones. Instalan cámaras y rastreadores GPS. Los ladrones vienen sobre todo por la noche, y utilizan varas o motosierras eléctricas silenciosas para robar las aceitunas.
La policía griega confirma un gran aumento de los robos de aceitunas en todo el país. Grecia es el tercer productor mundial de aceite de oliva. Debido al mal tiempo, este año los cultivadores han producido un 50% menos que el año anterior.
