En Gabón, los soldados tomaron el control del país y pusieron al presidente Ali Bongo bajo arresto domiciliario.
Esto ocurrió después de que Bongo ganara la reelección y estuviera a punto de convertirse en presidente por primera vez. Su familia gobernó el país durante casi 56 años. Tras los resultados electorales, se produjeron tiroteos en las calles. Los soldados aparecieron en televisión y anunciaron su toma del poder. La gente lo celebró en las calles. Bongo apareció en un vídeo y pidió ayuda. Por otra parte, los militares dijeron que las elecciones no habían sido correctas. Esta situación se suma al historial de problemas electorales y tensiones políticas de Gabón.
