Corea del Sur ha cambiado su sistema de cómputo de la edad de las personas. El nuevo sistema se ajustará a la norma internacional.

Anteriormente, las personas envejecían un año al nacer y ganaban otro año cada 1 de enero. Eso significa que si nacías el 31 de diciembre, tenías dos años al día siguiente. Los problemas con este sistema empezaron sobre todo durante la pandemia de COVID-19, cuando algunas personas no pudieron conseguir las vacunas y los pasaportes vacunales.

Ahora, la mayoría de los asuntos oficiales utilizarán el nuevo método. Algunas personas quieren utilizar el antiguo sistema de manera informal, pero el 86% de los surcoreanos piensan utilizar el nuevo sistema en su vida cotidiana. Habrá algunas excepciones, por ejemplo, para comprar alcohol, empezar la escuela y hacer el servicio militar.
