En Corea del Sur, las personas cumplen un año al nacer. Siempre el 1 de enero cumplen otro año más. Esto significa que si naces el 31 de diciembre, al día siguiente tienes dos años.
Para algunas personas, este sistema es confuso. Causó problemas durante la pandemia de COVID-19. El país cambia ahora la forma de contar las edades. Será similar al de la mayoría de los países del mundo. Hará que todos en Corea del Sur sean uno o dos años más jóvenes. Algunas personas seguirán utilizando a veces la forma antigua. Pero la mayoría prefiere la nueva.
En algunas situaciones, se mantendrá el sistema antiguo. Por ejemplo, para comprar alcohol, empezar la escuela y hacer el servicio militar.
