Un motín en una cárcel de mujeres de Honduras ha causado al menos 41 muertos.
El gobierno atribuye el ataque a bandas en respuesta a sus esfuerzos contra la corrupción en el sistema penal. La mayoría de las víctimas fueron quemadas o tiroteadas. Las autoridades están trabajando para identificar los cadáveres. La presidenta Xiomara Castro ha prometido tomar medidas drásticas y ha sustituido al ministro de Seguridad por el jefe de la Policía Nacional. El gobierno tiene previsto anunciar nuevas medidas para combatir la delincuencia organizada y desmantelar las amenazas a la seguridad desde el interior de las prisiones.
Se cree que el motín es una reacción a la ofensiva del gobierno contra la corrupción en las prisiones, que incluyó redadas para arrebatar el control a poderosas bandas y guardias corruptos. Los familiares de los reclusos esperan ansiosamente información sobre sus seres queridos.
