El club de fútbol inglés Manchester United está en conversaciones para venderse por más de 6.000 millones de dólares a un consorcio dirigido por el jeque qatarí Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani.
La familia Glazer, que actualmente posee participaciones minoritarias en el club, vendería sus acciones como parte del acuerdo. La familia hizo su fortuna en el sector inmobiliario, minorista y sanitario, y compró el equipo por 1.000 millones de dólares en 2005. Sin embargo, el club ha visto disminuir su rendimiento bajo la propiedad de la familia Glazer, y su último título de la máxima categoría lo ganó en 2012-13. La oferta qatarí es preferible a la del multimillonario británico Jim Ratcliffe. Si la operación se lleva a cabo, una venta por más de 6.000 millones de dólares sería una de las mayores de la historia en el mundo del deporte. El valor del Manchester United sería más de 10 veces superior a sus ingresos anuales.
