Recep Tayyip Erdogan ganó las elecciones presidenciales de Turquía de 2023 con el 52,14% de los votos. Prolongó su gobierno a una tercera década.

Su rival, Kilicdaroglu, obtuvo el 47,86% de los votos. La gente esperaba que Erdogan ganara porque iba en cabeza en la primera vuelta. Muchos musulmanes apoyan a Erdogan porque lo ven como un protector global. Kilicdaroglu y su partido querían cambios en el país y mejores relaciones con Occidente, pero no tuvieron éxito.

Ahora Erdogan tiene que tomar decisiones importantes sobre el ejército turco, los refugiados y las relaciones internacionales. A algunas personas les preocupa que Erdogan tenga el poder absoluto en el país.
